We've got ourselves a fantasy royal court setting for this one. Don't pick a normal detective. Add "the king" as a description to one of the suspect cards in the journal. And by the way, the king dies in this one. Unlike a usual game of The Locked Room Murder Mystery Game, we know who dies at the end of the Lead-Up. It's the King. He's about to be dead.
The character who would become the victim by the normal rules will instead take on the rule of the investigator, determined to reveal the truth to the realm.
Tables for the Lead-Up
Draw a card and compare it to these tables before writing any chapters as described in the section on the Lead-up.
Cause of Death
♠

♥
A mysterious hunting accident involving a boar
♣
Placed into a surpise guillotine
♦
Publicly poisoned
When does the detective get involved in the case?
The detective in this one is the character who, under the normal rules, would die at the end of the first phase of chapters. Thus they've been here all along.
How does the detective get involved in the case?
Devotion to the crown, of course. What other reason would they have to find the truth of the king's death?
