2-7: Removed the Answer mechanic. Now, during the investigation, players will simply update the clue they are focusing on. Answers were interesting but ultimately seemed to get in the way of investigation scenes rather than help tell a compelling story. Updating the existing clues should feel much more intuitive, and was something that felt missing in the investigations I’ve done. This also fits in much better with the new Summation procedure from the January update, which didn’t involve the answers at all.
2-7: Reworked Peril: Now, a plot is enacted the moment a second peril gets added to a suspect. When the sleuth moves, it may remove a peril from the suspect it lands next to. With answers removed, this gave me an opportunity to keep the intention behind peril but make it much more intuitive and easy to explain
2-7: Added the optional Table of Contents. This is something from the ashcan that I really liked, but got circumvented by the Answer Sheet. If you play with the table of contents, you’ll name each chapter once it finishes and add it to the table of contents*
2-7: Updated the playkit to reflect the above changes.
2-7: Added a requirement to involve at least as many suspects in each chapter as the rank of the drawn card. In my personal games and in much of the feedback received so far, players felt like they didn’t see some of the suspects at all. By encouraging more suspects to be involved in each scene, the story should be more dynamic and involve more of the characters
2-7: Added guidance on roleplaying vs narrating chapters. Roleplaying chapters is a lot of fun, and I imagine groups do it naturally, but I wanted to specifically encourage it especially given the new rule about a minimum number of suspects
2-7: Added more clarifications to the rot In the feedback I received, the rot was a speedbump for some groups. A lot of this feels like it stems from the rules wording that the answer being generated needed to relate to the rot, and now says the chapter has to relate to the rot instead. This was one of the reasons for the removal of the answers mechanic; I’ll be interested to see how this feels after the adjustment.
